Bielsa Admits West Brom Will Be “Most Difficult” Game Yet, Especially With Ongoing Defensive Conversations

|

With Leeds United looking to get back to winning ways on Tuesday evening as we welcome current Championship table toppers West Bromwich Albion to Elland Road, one of the biggest topics of conversation over the weekend after the Charlton Athletic loss, was our frustrating defensive showings from set pieces.

Charlton’s winner came from a corner and speaking immediately post-game, our Argentine gaffer admitted that in many ways dead ball situations were the only ‘resource’ that opponents so far this year had had on us when it came to their goal threat.

By that token, we can expect another tough game on Tuesday night and speaking to the Official Site as he met with the media on Monday, Bielsa was pulling no punches about the attacking intent of Slaven Bilic’s side – going as far as stating they would be the ‘most difficult’ side we had faced when it came to our defensive duties this year.

“West Brom have six players who have impact when they have possession, the two full-backs, the two wingers, the centre-forward and playmaker. As well as these six players, they have two defensive midfielders who manage the ball well. Out of all of the matches we have played so far, this opponent will be the most difficult opponent to defend against. We will think about how we played against West Brom in the last match at Elland Road and they will think of how they played against us when they were at home. We are always forced to win after one defeat more, we are playing against the top of the table at home and we always find reasons.”

There will be those fans who naturally fear his comments, given he’s right and unless things change up top and we make better use of our chances, it’ll continue to be a worry.
